Fungia spp. (Green Edge)

Fungia spp., commonly known as Plate Coral or Fungia-type Disc Coral, are free-living LPS corals known for their round, oval, or elongated disc-shaped skeleton and fleshy, expandable polyp. They are generally unattached as adults and typically rest directly on the substrate, where they can slowly move or reposition themselves over time. Colors can include green, brown, cream, orange, pink, red, and purple, often with contrasting mouths and distinct radial ridges or patterns. Their solitary growth form and attractive appearance make them a popular addition to reef aquariums.

Care in Aquariums:

• Lighting: Low to moderate

• Flow: Gentle to moderate, indirect flow

• Placement: Sandbed or lower rockwork; provide open space around the coral

• Feeding: Photosynthetic but benefits from occasional small meaty foods or fine particulate coral food

• Space: Allow room for full polyp expansion and natural movement; avoid placing the coral where it can become trapped or damaged
